New Immigration System Stake Holder Meetings.Impact on ILR ?

Post by andhraguy » Mon Feb 27, 2006 8:57 pm

Hi ,

Here is the link regarding the Command Paper on the New Immigration System. Any clue on how long it takes from the 'Comand paper' to 'Implementation' . I am due for ILR in May :(

Interested to know the impact.

24 February 2006 - Events for stakeholders

Thanks
Andhraguy.

It would be astonishing if the forthcoming changes were to have any effect on you, andhraguy.

IND are managing to keep their heads above the water with thier present workload, although certain areas seem hopelessly overburdened, judging by the delays we're hearing about on, eg, the long term resident provisions.

IMO, the last thing they are going to want is a load of people having to apply an unexpected term of FLR instead of just applying for ILR, which would get them "off the books". It just wouldn't make sense for them to impose the five year requirement overnight, IMO. Surely the most sensible way to do it would be to phase it in, so that the first people who it affects will be new arrivals, not people who are on the verge of qualifying under the present rules.

I doubt that someone in their third or fourth year will suddenly find themselves having to do a fifth.

I might be completely wrong, but that's my view, anyway....

Hi there,

Thanks for your prompt responses. However would like to get more clarity on the situation.

- What is next step after 'Command paper' stage?
- Will it go for any further discussion in the house of parliament ( If yes, how long would this process takes usually)
- Will it be implemented straight away ..?? ( If so how long would it take.)

Highly appreciate your further views on the topic . I'm sure ur views will help many ILR aspirants due in the forthcoming weeks/months.

Thanks,
AndhraGuy.

AndhraGuy, as Ppron747 has said, "It would be astonishing if the forthcoming changes were to have any effect on you", and I totally agree.

The UK Government said ages ago that it would announce its proposals in the Spring of 2006. We all await those announcements with interest.

It starnge that the only stakeholders to be invited are the employment and educational sectors. This probably has something to do with the proposed point system for employment and students. Nothing to do with ILR.
