does bad credit history affect ILR application

Post by John2006 » Sun Feb 26, 2006 9:38 pm

I am going to apply ILR soon. There is now one thing I am worried about. Nearly a year ago I had an argument with Vodaphone about my mobile bill because they overcharged me one month rental which is around £25. I made a stupid decision and cancelled my direct debit to them and ignored their letter which ask me to pay the them. Now I had a bad credit score because of this. All my new credit card applications have been turned down.

Anyone know if home office will check my credit score when I submit my ILR application?

Many thanks in advance!

Stupid decision?! I cannot remember how many times I did things like that because there are so many money greedy bastards who tried to overcharge me for things like that - if you give them the chance they will always do!
So don't even think about it...

John2006, if you can show that you really don't owe the money you might like to ask Vodafone to issue a Small Claims Court claim against you ... and stress to them that it will be strenuously defended. From my experience it really does apply the mind of "the other side" if they are invited to start Court proceedings to prove that the money is owed.

If they decline to do that, as regards the entries they appear to have placed on Credit Reference agencies, point out that you consider those entries to be libel ... and appropriate action will be taken by you if they are not removed forthwith.

As regards your question about ILR ... I agree ... no effect whatsoever.

I don't think cancelling the direct debit causes any problem since we have to do it sometimes, but ignoring the letter is not a good sign

I think the key question here is whether OP's ILR application would have any impact of this.

IMHO - No.
