i overstayed my student visa by abt 7 months bt left voluntarily. I would like to visit the uk what are the chances that I will be granted a visit visa. Must I mention that I overstayed?I there a way to go abt it such that they do not deny me?

There is no question on the visit visa application form which asks "Did you overstay in the UK?".
Q. 6.1 asks for details of previous travel to the UK including purpose and duration. Just put in the actual length of time you were in the UK, leave it at that and see whether the ECO picks up on it. You'll have to take your chances on whether or not it is noticed and regarded as significant, but if you don't tell the truth and it is noticed, you'll be banned for 10 years.
