Child Tax Credit / ILR

Post by amj » Thu Jun 10, 2010 11:03 am

Hi,

I have gone through various queries/posts around Tax Credit and releated responses but could not get a definitive response. So i was looking for an advice on the following -

My nationality is Indian and I am on a work permit visa. I'm staying with my wife & 2 kids (one born in UK). I started to claim child benefits and tax credits, and later when I realised I should not be doing it, I refunded the Child benefits and it has stopped now. But I still receive Child Tax Credit. I have an appointment next month for ILR. It would be useful if someone can advice on my next steps - should I contact home office and fix my Child Tax credits or considering that I have my appointment next month - this is going to be too late..... Thanks.

you need to write to the CTC office and inform them that you wish to stop the payments ...phoning them will not be enough as they take ages to do anything. I would then take a copy of the letter (and whatever proof you have regarding what you paid back) to your appointment . You might want to have a look at this http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... cfunds.pdf

Thanks for the advice. I could not find their email address, so I spoke to them over the phone. They have now stopped my claim and will contact me soon about the amount to be repaid. I am conscious this may take several weeks and I may not be able to refund the amount due before my ILR appointment next month.
Is stopping the claim enough for me to tick all the boxes (regarding not claiming any benefits) on ILR application? Thanks again for the help.
