hi

i have been living in the uk for 16 years ,4 years as a student and then overstayed ,i've been a victim of a scam from a solicitor ,anyway to cut the story short i have my leave to remain ,can i apply for citizenship or do i have to wait for another 5 years.

any help much appreciated.

I fear that it's another five years.... Time spent here illegally doesn't count towards the residence requirement, as I understand it...

Unfortunately, the way the law is framed, only the five years running up to the date of application can count towards the residence requirement, so the first four years are too far back in the mists of time to be reckonable, I'm afraid :(
