What will happen is, after months of delay, when public will almost forget about the story, the HO will come up with a report that would say that there is no evidence of such practise.
Then the ministers would welcome the report. As they will be in trouble if anything is found. Then that’s the end of the story.
Then the practise will go on again but with more caution.

Instead of assuming automatically that every civil servant is corrupt - and every news story has even a remote basis in truth, Confused1, you might like to consider whether there's a reason that, after a month, the Sun doesn't seem to have followed this up, and other papers haven't jumped on the bandwagon either.

Why do you think this might be?

Don't forget this is the same newspaper that will have you believe that every immigrant in the UK is only here to claim benefits, take British citizens' jobs and that the country is being overrun by asylum seekers.

You can't believe everything you read.

Although I do not always trust The Sun but I have the reasons to believe in this due to the level of organisation, blunders in people's applications, low pay and generally low intelligence and poorly educated staff there that has always historically been the ground for corruption.

I think their fasle remark is to do with their commercial interest. Just think once, who are their target market, think about their readers and their way of life and the way they sees the world. Hope that explains.

I think I do understandi it now, cofused1. What you're saying is that it's OK for them to tell lies about foreigners, immigrants and asylum seekers, because it sells papers to their sort of reader, but everything else they say is the unvarnished absolute truth.

I found myself agreeing with something you said, earlier this evening. I don't think it'll be happening too often....

According to BBC News

Immigration staff were engaged in "unprofessional behaviour" towards applicants, a Home Office inquiry says.

But it found there was no evidence of the "sex for visas" scam alleged by a whistleblower earlier this year.

The investigation was prompted by allegations made to the Sun by an ex-employee at Lunar House immigration centre in Croydon, south London.

The inquiry criticised behaviour such as making contact outside the office and making fun of passport photographs....

I like the last bit! Seems to me that, wherever you have a group of people whose job licludes dealing with ID photographs, whether it is for canteen passes, driving licences, gym memberships or passports or driving licences, they're going have a laugh at the funny ones....

Agreed, ppron. Workplace humour is always going to find expression in funny names, pictures or whatever regardless of regulations.

And on a lighter note, when I still needed a visa I wouldnt have objected to an offer of sex for it :-/
