ILR Timeline Question

Post by leondj » Wed Mar 15, 2006 10:01 am

Hello,

First of all great forum! I have searched through the forum, but can't find the answer I am looking for, so here goes:

My initial Work permit was approved on 13/03/2003. (in country) The letter stated that I can start working while I apply for FLR. The stamp was then put into my passport on 14/04/2003.

I just applied for my HSMP, and got initial approval on 21/02/2006

I know I can apply for ILR after being on a work permit + HSMP for 3 years and 11 months. My question is will this be 3 years and 11 months after my initial work permit approval on 13/03/2003 or after when the stamp was put in my passport on 14/04/2003?

Thanks for any help!

Sorry, just saw the news about 5 years instead of 4 for ILR :( .....

My question still remains, but with 1 year extra at the end.....

Thanks...

The time will be counted from the time that you actually landed in the UK on your work permit for the first time, i.e. the date on the stamp in your passport.
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

I think the OP was already in the UK and WP while in the UK. Still the answer should remain the same - date your passport was stamped.

Anyways it is a question of one month....why to think so much about it. The period is extended by one whole year now so one month here and there what difference would it make?

My idea was to spend 3 years on a WP and then 1 year on a HSMP, and apply for ILR before I have to renew my HSMP. Obviously this is now not relevant anymore. Damn 5 years!

However with the new rule in place does this mean that HSMP will initially be granted for 2 years and then a further 3. Or will it be 1 and 4?
