HSM applying for tier 1: previous earnings help

Post by amrhady » Mon Jun 28, 2010 7:30 pm

Hi,

I'm an Egyptian applying for a UK work permit under Tier 1 General (HSMP), I need some help regarding my previous earnings. My situation is as follows

I have been working for a local software company for 3 years, and resigned on the 10th of March, 2010. I have an appointment at the Visa application center on 10 July, 2010. I am planning to provide my earnings for the period 10-April-2009 to 10-March-2010 which is 11 month, within a 15 month prior to my application. I was paid my salary end of each month, and for the total salary of that period (after applying uplift and conversion rates) I can score 25 to 30 points.

However, I have some concerns
1. For the dates above, I'm including 20 days from April 2009 and not the full month and 10 days from March 2010. How should this be handled in my previous earnings document? Can I still count the total salary for April 2009?

2. My company had a system of payment that I receive 85% of my salary, and the rest is paid quarterly. So every 4th month(April,July,October, January), I received the salary of that month(-15%) along with the 15% from each of the previous 3 months. How should this be explained in my earnings document? (please consider point #3 below along with this question)

3. My company might not agree to provide me with letter indicating my payments for each month separately, but rather a letter with my gross and net salary/month. For example, "We confirm that xxxx was employed during the period xxxx and received a monthly gross salary of xxxx" - Would this evidence be sufficient along with my bank statement?

On a different topic, do the Visa application center require that they keep my passport until they reach a decision? as I might be traveling outside Egypt during that period.

Thank you very much for your help.

Hi Amrhady,

Welcome to the forum..

Its applicant's responsibility to clearly state the odds to the case worker. In your case I suggest you to put together a covering letter which should explain your case. For example I will take a quarter (July - Sep 2009) and in that explain July 2009 month earnings and explain them about 85% salary (the rest is being paid at the quarter end - which you can highlight in the Jun 2009 payslip).

For example if your salary is 10000 every month - for 3 months it is 30000.

It is paid to you as follows.

Month - Total Salary - Net salary (85%) - Quarterly pay
July 09 - 10000 - 8500 - 0
Aug 09 - 10000 - 8500 - 0
Sep 09 - 10000 - 8500 - 4500 (which makes the net salary as 13000)

I guess you should have payslips for the each months. Once you took print outs highlight the net salary with a marker and also put a stick paper in the payslip. In the stick mention the same and repeat the procedure in all the monthly payslips.

Coming back to your questions.

1. Yes, you can count the total salary for April 2009.

2. I personally had some issues explaining my earnings as I receive salary in two components. USA component and India component. I put down all the points in a covering letter and had no issues. Remember to give all the information in a simple manner which a child also can understand.

Based on my experience, first prepare a covering letter then review it atleast 10 times to make it more clear and simpler to understand. Make sure if someone who doesn't about your package details, will be able to understand it.

There are lot of example covering letter formats in the forum, which you can make use of.

3. Getting letters from HR is always an issue. Try getting a letter which shows per month net and gross payments for the whole period. If you couldnt get it try getting attestation in all the payslips. If that is also possible, then we dont have any option other than getting a letter which will tell the gross and net payments for the period you worked on. Please make sure the data matches with sum of individual monthly payments.

They will hold the visa until completion of process. Check your visa office processing timings. I remember it was mentioned somewhere in the guideline document that if you have to move out of country, then you might need to cancel your application. I am sure some senior members will show more light on this.

All the best and let me know if you need any other information.
