Hi
I was able to clear technical rounds for an MNC based in Ireland. HR said that my application is under post-interview processing. In the application they said that they would contact previous employer before rolling out offer letter. In the application I mentioned that I was getting 22k but in fact the previous salary was 15k. When this HR contacts my old company, do they ask these questions? I am a bit tensed as I was able to clear all rounds and about to make a successful application. I was really struggling since 3 months to manage a job and have given 15 interviews in last 3 months.
What can I do now...if you have anything to suggest.....you are most welcome.

yes, its normal for uk comapies to make reference checks.
but i dont think they will be enquiring about your pay. - it will be more to do with your work experience, your job role and your character
- but its not a good idea to give incorrect information nevertheless..

When you give you P45 to your new employer, HR will be able to see you earnt 8k less than you stated in your interview, usually companies expect someone to add 5% / 10% and let this go, you however have completely lied and if found out will be dismissed.

I don't understand how you have lied about your previous salary without thinking about the P45 that you will need to submit when you join the company. The point here is not about how many months you have been jobless, but about the principle.

Congratulation, you have wasted 3 months of effort finding a job by lied about your previous salary.
