Advice on marrying non eu citizen

I am a British citizen and have an non eu (American) girlfriend. We have been togther for almost 5 years and want to get married in the UK. What process do we need to go through?

Thanks Wanderer - but I was hoping that with the expertise on this forum, someone could have saved me hours of searching. From what I have seen so far nothing matches my question. Maybe you can point me in the right direction?

Do you just want to have the wedding here or do you want to settle here together once you are married? Where are you both living at the moment?

I live in the UK and we both want to settle in the UK - for the time being. My girlfriend visits when her work allows.

Apply for the fiance visa. Read the guidance for documents you'll need. Otherwise you can go to the US and marry her on the vwp and have her apply for a spousal visa.

Edit to add: Don't have her come on a visit and try to adjust status within the uk.
