Is Free Early Education Entitlement a public funds?

Hello everyone,

I am a work permit holder and is going to apply for ILR in this November 2010. I am not entitled for any child tax credit or child benefit as it clearly states in my visa that i am not allowed to claim any public funds.

My son is 3-year-old now and i am thinking about to send him to nursery. I was told that there is a Free Early Education Entitlement(FEEE) for 3 to 4 year olds. Basically the government has guaranteed a free part time early education for all three and four years olds. The grant provides five sessions of two and half hours per week free.

My question is if i get my son to nursery now and claim the FEEE, will it affect my ILR application? I have no idea if the grant is any sort of public funds or it is just for anyone whose children are 3 to 4 years old?

Anyone knows about this?

Thanks for the link. Well, it certainly lists all public funds and looks like healthcare and education do not count as public funds. However, it is not explained very clearly and I am not sure what 'education' means, free public school education? Is this 3 to 4 year free early education grant part of this or something exclusive?

Maybe Family Information Service could provide the answer? I will try to call them today and see what they say.

After speaking to my local Family Information Service and queried about childcare for 3 and 4 year olds, i was told that this grant is a government funding, not public funds. Every 3 and 4 year old children can enjoy 15 hours/wk (increased from 12.5 hours/wk)from Sep 2010 for free early education regardless of their immigration status which is stated in statutory guildance.

I am really pleased now and will look for nurseries for my 3-year-old son now.
