All I need to know is whether its a mandatory question or an optional!
As your're asking for a little insight here, it certainly won't help your cause using exclamatory remarks such as "!!". Nobody likes a smart-arse
If it were optional it would state so explicitly in the guidelines. It is mandatory for British and Non-British refrees. If it were otherwise, they would have put a caveat in the guidelines. No need to make a mountain out of a very simple instruction. It probably won't be the first time your GP has had to do something like this. Again, what gives you the notion that your GP will not know their passport number. That is just ridiculous. I dont know my passport number either but like many people i know, i dont keep my passport in a vault in Fort Knox. Not knowing and not wanting to give it out are two different things. Perhaps you are more concerned and have reservations that he/she may not want to give it out. People always try to manoeuvre specific instructions to fit their situations so you are in any doubt call UKBA and you will get a very specific answer
