Unmarried Partner - marriage / civial partnership certificat

Post by lichung » Sun Jul 18, 2010 4:03 pm

I am applying for Tier 1 and my unmarried partner is already in UK as a valid work permit holder for 2 years

On my application form it says "unless single, please provide evidence of your marital status e.g. marriage or civil partnership certificate"

We are unmarried partners and we don't have any of these certificates......

will this affect my application or do I actually need to submit extra proof (e.g joint tenancy contract) for my "unmarried partner" status?

"unless single, please provide evidence of your marital status e.g. marriage or civil partnership certificate"
Hmm, this clearly is contradicting.

Since there is clearly an option of 'Unmarried Partner' option in Part 2 of the VAF9 form.

Also pls read, guidance notes, which clearly states,
Unmarried partner – You currently live in a conjugal or marriage-like
relationship with your partner but are not legally married.
IMHO, you can explain that you are not legally married and hence have not document evidence for unmarried partner in the additional notes / covering letter.

Best luck.

Thanks for the reply.

Now I don't know if it is more appropriate for me to change my marital status on the form to single so that I can avoid all these hassles. If I do so, and later on IF my partner apply for a dependant visa of me, is there any problem? As they can see that on my marital status under Tier 1 is single.....

so should I just leave it as it is......please advise.....

But that doesn't solve the problem you been having....later when she applies for your dependant she would have to produce some documents confirming your relationship...

no matter what status I put this time she will need to submit evidence about our relationship when she applies for dependent visa later (she's not gonna apply probably until the end of next year when her visa expires)

AND if I put single now for my tier 1 application, at least for this time I don't have to worry all those documents because she's got her own visa and doesn't need a dependant visa atm
