Permanenst residnece through work permit..Question

Hi I am currently on a employer sponsored work permit.

and it is set to expire at Dec 14 2010

my question is will I be Refused permanent residence if my Salary is Lower than the one stated on the work permit letter?

I am now currently on just under 16k per year but my work permit letter states its 25k a year. (this is due to the recession and cost cutting)

if so is there any other ways around it?

any help or advice would be much appreciated

The difference is huge and I believe the employer needs to inform UKBA of salary changes (above a min. threshold).
