Visa status for baby born in India for parents with ILR

Post by aks1407 » Fri Jul 23, 2010 8:52 pm

Hi All,

My wife and I have a ILR status since Oct 2009 and I am due for citizenship in Oct 2010.

My wife is pregnant and is planning to goto India for delivery, baby is due in Jan 2011.

Can someone please help with what will be the visa status of the baby born in India to travel to UK?

Also, will the baby get British nationality, straight-away, if I get citizenship before the birth of baby?

Thanks and regards,
Aks

Hi,

If possible try to keep your wife in UK if she is planning to go india it is not that simple .

If your baby is going born in UK baby is eligible for registering as british citizen

If your baby is going to born in india you need to apply settlement visa which costs more (nearly 50k), it takes time and need more documents.

So based on everything make your decision

Thanks

Child, if born in UK, will be British - since you are settled. Contrary to response above, in such case you will not need to register the child as British but can apply for British passport straight away.
