HSMP or Tier 1 question

I would like to know if I am under HSMP rules or Tier 1 rules? I applied on the 11th March 2008 and approval letter 27th June 2008. But application was done from South Africa. The approval letter says IMMIGRATION ACT 1971 - HIGHLY SKILLED MIGRANT PROGRAMME (HSMP) APPLICATION AGAINST THE QUALIFYING CRITERIA FROM - 5 DECEMBER 2006.

My passport was stamped in August 2008 with a Tier 1 visa, now you may say that I am on Tier 1 as it was after 29th Feb 2008 but if I recall correctly different parts of the world had different closing dates. If I remember correctly South Africa was 30th June 2008. So would I therefore still be under HSMP rules? Or under Tier 1 rules?

I'm in the same boat!

I have a HSMP letter and had to apply for Tier 1 under transitional arrangements. I think I will be considered as a Tier 1 immigrant instead of a HSMP holder.

FC, when you say you had to apply under Tier 1 'transitional arrangements', what do you mean by that. And also did you get your visa? And for how long? From the date it expired? You must have applied early as mine expires in about a year and thinking of applying a bit earlier

I got my HSMP letter before February 2008, after which the HSMP was replaced by Tier 1. For those people who had a valid HSMP letter but haven't applied for EC, home office came up with a transitional arrangement where the HSMP letter issued was accepted but a Tier 1 visa was issued for 3 years!

I was on workpermit for one year in the UK from March 2007, then switched to Tier 1 in April 2008. My Tier 1 is valid till April 2011, and I have to get it extended soon. Early extension can be certainly done.

I will try booking an in person appointment at a PEO, and wait for their call. If they kick me out for too early an extension, I will plan to apply for an extension 4 months in advance.
