hunpak wrote:Hi friends i got an EAA resident document in April 2010. i have just finished MBA and currently unemployed, my wife is working fulltime though earning like 1000 quid a month but after paying taxes, rent etc we are hardly surviving and literally living on credit cards..
I would love to get a job asap to support my family but can you please guide me what help can i get in the meanwhile?
I am totally new at the benefit system..
Thanks JohnJohn wrote:The payment of taxes will not help but the payment of NI contributions might help.
If you have not already done so I suggest to get down to your local Job Centre+ and see if you can claim contribution-based job-seeker's allowance. Payment of that benefit, limited to 6 months, will not take your wife's earnings into account.
You will find that McDonalds is not flooded with "illiterates". Students and qualified people struggling to kick off their careers may be one of those who have served you. But let me guess - you do not patronise McDs!hunpak wrote:I am a MBA not an illiterate Moron like uKorben Dallas wrote:Check your local McDonald's.

I understand that you may not want to 'stoop soooo low', but spare a thought for those who just want to earn a living legally (instead of going on the dole), albeit meagre, and have to compromise on what they would ideally like to do.
As John advised, go to your local JC and assess whether you qualify for contribution-based JSA. Eligibility depends on your historical NI contributions for the last 2 - 3 tax years. Also actively keep job hunting and applying (no less than 10 applications per day) and you just might get lucky.
