From Work permit to student visa

Hi all,
I am currently working in the UK on WP but I have got admission for full time course from Sep 06. How do I get about converting my WP to student visa?

I have the same enquiry as you have. Below is the answer from HO.

Dear Sir

Thank you for your enquiry.

If you wish to study full-time you will require a student
visa.

As you are from a visa national country you are not
able to switch into the student visa category whilst in
the UK.

You are required to obtain entry clearance as a student/
prospective student, regardless of the level of course you
wish to study, at the nearest British Diplomatic Post in
your home country.

You will need to contact the nearest British
Diplomatic Post in your home country for further information.

The Home Office does not issue Entry Clearance.

This is the responsibility of British Diplomatic Posts around the world.

Hi there,
Well I entered UK on student visa, finished my education, got a job here on work permit.Now I want to study more.
Here is what I found:
I am already inside the UK. Can I change my immigration status to become a student?


The rules on becoming a student in the UK are not straightforward. It is only allowed in the following circumstances:
· If you are a visa national (check the definitions page to see if this applies to you) you must have last entered the UK as a student or a prospective student. In any other circumstances, you have to return home and apply for a visa.
· If you are not a visa national and you have been accepted for a course of study at degree level or above you can switch your visa to become a student.
· If you are not a visa national and you last entered the UK as a student or prospective student and you have been accepted for a course of study below degree level you may also switch to become a student.

All of these depend on you meeting the other requirements of the student rule as well.
