Process for British Nationality-

Post by Mrs Khan » Sun Sep 26, 2010 5:26 pm

Hi
I would like an expert advice on how do we apply for naturalisation. I have got ILR and understand i will be eligible for nationality after an year.

I like to apply for my spouse and UK born child as well. I would appreciate a reply on following issues.
1- can we make a joint applications (including my child).
2- How much do we have to pay>
3.What form is use for applying and what documentary evidences are required.

Please note that I got ILR under the terms of HSMP Judicial Review.

When did you and your spouse arrive in the UK?

Also you mention one born-in-the-UK child? Are there any other children in your household? Born outside the UK?

Given your route to ILR, have you and your spouse passed the Life in the UK Citizenship test?

We came in April 2006.
We have only one child and was born in UK.
We got ILR under terms of Judicial Review and Life in UK test was not required, however i understand it would be mandatory for Nationality therefore im preparing for test, while my husband has passed life in UK test.

Just to add we got a letter from Home office (upon ILR) that Under terms of Judicial Review,we can apply for Nationality in April2011.and we shld submitt that letter with our nationality application.

OK, I understand, but point out that you can make the application for Registration as British for your child now. The child was born in the UK and now that at least one parent has ILR, an application can be made under section 1(3), using form MN1.

A section 1(3) application is an entitlement application .... no UKBA discretion involved. Such applications do not take long to process and most people find that the Certificate of Registration will arrive in less than one month.

Thank you john for prompt reply.
I would also like your advice as what to do.
We got ILR last month, but UKBA advice us that we can apply for nationality in April2011 under terms of judicial review.
My quest is can we apply all together(me,myslef and my spouse) or i will have to apply for my child seperately?

I am asking if by making joint applications, we can safe some money.

Joint naturalisation application (self + spouse) will save money. But the child's registration application will have to be paid for irrespective of whether you apply for child's registration at the same time as your naturalisation or earlier.

From Nov 2010,
Single AN application - GBP 780
Joint AN application (self+spouse) - GBP 1010
Child MN1 application (single) - GBP 500

For documents needed, read the relevant forms (AN and MN1) and guidance.

Actually as regards Citizenship application fees, they are not going up in October!

In the link as provided by sushdmehta the relevant details on page 4 of 5 are headed "Fees to be Implemented from November 2010".

Thanks John for pointing out the mistake! Apologies, Mrs Khan!

A saving of 30 quids if you apply for child's registration before November (currently 470 quids).
