Permesso or Carta??

Post by marrying Italian » Tue Sep 28, 2010 6:35 pm

Hello,

I'm confused as to whether I should be applying for the carta di soggiorno or the Permesso di soggiorno.

I currently have the permesso di soggiorno (studio). I got married to an italian a month ago (in Italy) and am confused as to whether I should be applying for a different kind of permesso or the carta di soggiorno.

Also, do i need to get my criminal record from Canada for this? From what i read it might take a couple of months since I don't live in Canada anymore, i'd have to get the police here to take my fingerprints and send it over (probably will have to get some authentication of translation as well) and then they would send back the criminal record but it takes a couple of months for them to turn it around.

The explanation of what documents I need are confusing. I'm not sure if in ADDITION to the criminal record i need to provide "just" the wedding certificate (plus photos, passport copy) or JUST the wedding certificate, passport copy, pics etc.

help please? any other Canadians or non-italians who might be able to share their experience please?

Thanks
canadian married to an italian.

Hi,

have you asked at the canadian embassy in Rome? preuming there is one?

im sure you are not the first canadian to be in this situation, they might be able to help with any documents from canada too.
