Student to PSW dependent

Hi Guys, need an urgent favour.

My friend is applying for is PSW visa from a student visa. His girlfriend is currently in UK as a student. After getting his PSW he is planning to marry her and apply for a dependent visa for her. But his college has told him that his girl friend has to cancel her student visa and go back to sri lanka and apply as a dependent from there. Please advise.

To marry in the UK, they may need a Certificate of Approval.

Hi Guys thanks for your feedback. Actually he has not changed his student visa to PSW. Someone has told him if both are students he can apply for a dependent for his girlfriend/wife and change to PSW. He got only 3 months left in his Student Visa. He came to UK in 2007. Please advise.

Hi Sush, sorry if my message for confusing. Earlier question was whether a PSW visa holder can marry a student. Which you correctly answered that they have to go back to home country to get the dependent processed.

My question is if the guys stays as a student ( not converting the visa to PSW), can he marry here and convert the girls visa from Student to Dependent? They have already got the COA.
