EU1 application questions

Hello,
I am planning on moving to Ireland from the UK in a couple of weeks. I have tried contacting the immigration office but have been having trouble getting a response either by phone or by email.

I am an American citizen, married to a British citizen. We were living in Ireland from Oct 2007 until May 2010. I was relocated to Britain for employment, but still employed by my Irish company and am now moving back, hopefully permanently. As my immigration card expired, I was told to submit the EU1 application form.

My problem is this - I am moving into Ireland around October 22 and need to travel to Norway for training on November 21. The EU1 form requires me to submit my passport and proof of address. Obviously it will take some time to get proof of address (other than just the lease) and I also need to get my passport back for travel to Norway.

Does anyone know how long it takes to get the passport back? Can I wait until after I travel to submit my application? Will I have trouble getting back into Ireland the second time? Can I submit the application in person and get the passport returned the same day?

Any info/advice is appreciated. Thank you.

I do hope you realise, as the spouse of a British national, you have no right of residence in Ireland, without your wife first accompanying you and exercising her rights under the treaty in Ireland.

If you are clear on that, and you have all the necessary proof required for the EU1 application, i will say you passport will most likely be returned within 4 weeks, with a letter asking you to go to local Garda to register for a temporary stamp 4

Yes, my wife & family are all arriving with me. I was told simply to show the immigration officer our marriage certificate upon arrival into Ireland. My problem is getting back into Ireland in November on my own, after travel to Norway for training.

I have no doubt of getting the proof for the application. The issue is getting it in time to travel to Norway. Can I go in and out of the country before submitting my application or will I have problems at the airport? I was told I'd get a 6 month stamp in my passport while the application is being reviewed, but I'm not clear on when I would get this stamp.

You and your partner will need proof of Address, or PRTB, and your spouse (EU national) will need to show evidence she is exercising treaty rights, as a

1. Student

2. Worker

3. Self Sufficient

4. Self Employed.


For 1 and 3 you will be required to show proof of Comprehensive sickness insurance. They require a PRTB, as proof of lawful residence which takes about 3 months to process.

I believe in the meantime you passport will be returned, once both yours and your wife's has been checked and authenticated.

This process, like i stated earlier, is usually done, within a month.

Thank you for the help. I'm employed already and for the moment, my wife is home with the children, so the only option really is #3. The first time we moved to Ireland we never had to show any proof of insurance. Do we have to get insurance from an Irish insurance provider or will her British national insurance card cover this? Thanks again.
