General visitor to the UK question (will she get bounced?)

Post by Fused » Wed Oct 06, 2010 1:25 am

Greetings forum. Apologies if this is a well worn topic, but all the same I'd appreciate any comments offered.

I'm a British citizen, my girlfriend an American - we're in our mid twenties. We're planning for her to come visit the UK (for the first time) for the holiday season i.e. From the start of November through to mid January. She'll be staying with me at my home during this time. As is (I'm assuming) often the case, we're worried about her being denied entry to the UK as a general visitor when we get to the airport. They're funny about girlfriends here, aren't they? We'll be coming through together, as I'm going to the USA for a week at the end of the month and we'll come back on the same plane. She moved up to New York state a couple of months ago, renting an apartment with a friend there. She's not got a job at the moment - she just moved to New York and is waiting until she comes back to apply for one. We're planning to bring the following with us as evidence that she's a genuine visitor:

A copy of her (new) tenancy agreement
A copy of a residency tax bill she has to pay in December for her new place
Her car ownership documents
£2k in cash (spending money for her while she's here)
An itinerary - a list of stuff we'd like to see while she's visiting
Camera & guide book
A return ticket for mid January (it's a 3 month stay we've planned)
A copy of my bank statements to show that I've got enough income to support her during her visit if it comes to that

Is this likely to be a decent amount of evidence to show she intends to return to the USA? Enough that we won't have problems?

Thanks in advance for any comments/advice.

I think it'll be okay but if you're really worried, have her apply for a visitor visa before hand.
I tell it like it is.

On the basis of that evidence and speaking as an IO, she should be fine.
The only thing I would suggest you add is a travel insurance policy to cover
the period she will be in the UK. This will add to her credibility as a genuine visitor.
