Police check

Post by michel2 » Sat Oct 09, 2010 9:03 pm

Could anybody advise me if it is my responsibility to obtain a police check for the purposes of a US Visa or will they do the checks themselves? I notice on ACPO (which i understand to be the organisation runnin checks) that only a basic disclosure is given listing unspent convictions but I have read that the US do not recognise rehabilitation of offenders act so would all convictions need to be shown? One more question would be would i still need the same documentation if i was applying from the US?

If you are applying for a US visa, they will perform all the necessary background checks. Of course, it would help to cooperate with them and answer all questions. As far as criminal pasts, I don't believe rehabilitation is recognized.

Wrong: when applying for an immigrant visa, it's your responsibility to supply a police certificate. Why do you answer if you don't know what you are talking about?
