Tier 1 (G) Extension Queries

Post by puneetdwd » Fri Oct 22, 2010 12:41 pm

Hi everyone,
I have gone thru most of the post on extension, I still have few doubts on extension :-

1) What are the disadvantages or problem might occur if I am self employed or doing a Contract job with gaps (no employement) of 1-2 months.

2) Can one get 2 extensions? like we need to be living in UK for 5 yrs to porcess ILR but suppose I just stayed 1.5 yrs of my 3 year visa and get extension for 2 yrs so total stay in UK would be just 3.5 yrs?

3) I am also confused with early extension, is it from the date of application or from the date of visa expiry
?

thanks

1. No.
2. Under current rules, as many extensions as you like.
3. Early extension means applying for extension much before the current leave is due to expire.

Hi,
Thanks so much SushdMehta for your prompt response.

I am permanent role but I am willing to take up some contract job but my visa is left for exactly just one more year so, I need to plan my extension well in advance.

I wanted to know the pros n cons on extension for the person who do contract jobs.
I request people to Please post who has done extension being a self employed or contractor. How do you show your earning etc.

thanks so much again.

Extension on Tier 1 (General) is not dependent on whether one is employed or self-employed, but on the earnings through employment / self-employment (amongst other criteria).

There may be pros and cons of self-employment vs. employment in general, but advantage of one over the other is irrelevant from Tier 1 (General) initial / extension application perspective. As long as you can prove your earnings through specified documentary evidence(s) you'll be okay.

Clearly explained in the policy guidance. Making an effort to search the forum will also help. Some may argue that paperwork when self-employed is not easy to do and if you too have the same opinion then all you need is a competent accountant. Nothing more!
