Applying from Canada - inputs required

Post by sppc42 » Sun Oct 24, 2010 6:12 pm

Hi,

My brother is currently pursuing his MBA from Canada. He wishes to apply for the Tier-1 (General). Following are the doubts that arise and it'll be really great if someone can help out on these.
  • 1. Should he apply from Canada or from India, his original place of residence.

    2. Does an MBA (regular, not distance etc.) amounts to a Masters degree? Even though his college is in the top 50 in the world (as listed in the earlier MBA provision, which is no longer there), am not able to find any MBA related listing in the points calculator. Do I need to contact NARIC for that?

    3. He had left his previous job a year back to pursue his MBA. Will it be fine to show his employment history from that company, a year back?

    4. Even though he was working in India, he has now majority of his funds in his Canadian bank account. Can that be showed, or should it be the same bank account in India in which he recieved his salary?
Appreciate any inputs on this.

Thanks

1. His choice.
2. In general, yes. But whether MBA qualification earned oversees is equivalent to UK master's level depends on many factors (e.g. - curriculum). There is no "MBA list" in the PBS calculator. Enter details of qualifications as asked for in the PBS calculator (e.g. country, institution, level, duration etc.) and choose "business administration / management" as the subject.
3. What do you mean "employment history"? If you mean to ask if he can claim points for earnings from employment before he started his MBA then the answer is no.
4. Any bank anywhere in the world.

As a starting point, ask your brother to read the Tier 1 (General) policy guidance carefully.

Hi sushdmehta,

Thanks for the prompt reply, really appreciate this.

About employment history, yes, I was hoping he can show his employment back in India, before he joined his MBA. Can that not be used? Then what more option is left?

And about the education, I see no 'Business Administration' in the list, country->state being Canada->Ontario. Am I missing something obvious here?

Thanks

The policy guidance explains everything.
