EEA and Non-EEA wanting to apply for Citizenship

Post by help.com » Thu Oct 28, 2010 8:49 pm

Hi All,

I am a South African, married to a Polish citizen. My wife has been in England now for just over 5yrs.She has been in the same job,for that period of time.I have a EEA family permit, granted for 5yrs.I have been living in England for 5yrs,but only on the family permit for 1.5yrs as it took 1yr for my application to go through(crazy i know) and we used lawyers(doesnt help trust me). Before then i was on a 2yr working holiday visa and a 6mth tourist extension visa.I have not been out of the country for more than 3mths in a yr.My wife would now like to go for naturalisation and is studying for the test as i write this.

Should she be succesful in obtaining citizenship, which i have no doubt she will, will i be able to apply for naturalisation to?Would i then fall under a different category should she become a british citizen? Can we put in a joint application?Everything regarding this seems to be hazy, their doesnt seem to be a clear answer through UKBA.We had a tough enough time and alot of money spent just to get the EEA family permit and that was meant to be clear as day.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

A joint application requires both parties to satisfy the standard requirements.
