Is it possible to change the venue of citizenship ceremony

Post by psychedelic79 » Sat Oct 30, 2010 3:40 pm

I received an invitation to attend the Citizenship ceremony today but unfortunately this was from the South Lanarkshire council and the ceremony will be in Hamilton (50 miles from Edinburgh). I used NCS Hamilton to send off my application but I live in Edinburgh. I had no option other than South Lanarkshire as until recently they were the only council in Scotland who were offering NCS.

UKBA website says that the ceremony will be usually close to where I live and if I wanted it to be at someother place then I should mention it on my application.

Would it be possible to move the ceremony to Edinburgh or do I have to attend the one in Hamilton? Also how easy is it to move your ceremony date?

Thanks in advance.

On the form AN Q1.21 reads :-
If your application is approved, you will need to take part in a citizenship ceremony. The venue will normally be within a local authority area near where you live. If you want to have your ceremony in another area you should give us details of the local authority location below.
Did you enter anything in answer to that question? Or, like most people, leave it blank?

I left it blank assuming that it will be in Edinburgh.

I think that is a reasonable assumption. Not sure what to suggest. Maybe contact the office in Hamilton and see what they say about moving it to Edinburgh?

Just a wee update

Post by psychedelic79 » Sat Nov 06, 2010 3:57 pm

I have now spoken to Lanarkshire council and they have sent my paperwork to Edinburgh. I received the invitation letter from the Edinbugh council this morning. I am glad I don't have to make the journey to Hamilton.

So it looks like if you use a NCS to send your application then by default the HO will send the paperwork to that particular council.

It will be interesting to know if any one else had a similar experience.

Cheers.

:D
