Home owned, no mortgage - proof for extension?

Post by Barbara » Tue Apr 25, 2006 1:47 pm

I am preparing to apply for FLR after 4 years here in the UK on the HSMP visa. I am hoping for some guidance on 'proof of accommodation'. I am married to a UK citizen and we live together in a flat which he owns. There is no outstanding mortgage on this flat.

What sort of proof (if any) should I provide for my accomodation? In my previous FLR application (the one which I submitted after the first 12 months in the UK), there was still a mortgage payment so I submitted copies of my husband's (at that time we were not married) bank statements along with a letter signed by him stating that I lived there rent-free. Would just a letter stating this be sufficient without any mortgage proof? Is this necessary now that we are married (i.e., can I just state that 'we' own our flat with no mortgage) in a letter.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Do you have to provide proof of accomodation?
Where there is a will there is a way.

I thought that I would need to provide something to meet the 'evidence that you have funds to maintain and accommodate yourself and any dependents without recourse to public funds' requirement. Do you think it is sufficient that I just check the box as = Yes for 'Is your home in the UK owned by you', without any documents as proof of this?

Also, I am a bit unsure if I should say the house is 'Owned by You' or instead 'Owned or rented by a relative or friend'. Because we are married does it mean that they would consider the flat to be owned by both of us?

Thank you very much for your help!!

:) Barbara
