Foreign criminals escape removal

For those of you who think that the Home Office is watching us all....seems they've been caught napping.

By the way, can anyone tell me what your immigration status would officially be if you are convicted and sent to prison while on limited leave to remain in the UK and that leave to remain expires while you are in prison? Obviously chances are that you will be deported afterwards, but WHILE you are locked up, what immigration status would you have officially?
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

I guess the status of someone convicted and imprisoned be 'prisoner' or 'goverment property' just like any other prisoners be he British, EU or from elsewhere.

On a more serious note, I suppose prisoners have no status quo while in prison and would only revert to their immigration status (that is applicable to them) when they are out.

For the case you mentioned, I suppose his /her case will be that of a prisoner with expired LTR. This would obvisoulsy hasten his/her removal.
