mother in law visa issue

Could anyone please share their advise on how to act in this type situation:

I am a UK national, my wife (Kazakh national) is here on a Marriage/Spouse visa. We have a baby on the way and since we are in our 20s, my wife's mother (also Kazakh national) has kindly offered to come and help us with the baby, whilst we get on our feet career wise.

A family visitor visa is too short, as we would like her to stay for at least a year.

We cannot invite her as a dependant, because boldly speaking we are dependants ourselves .. we do not have enough funds at the moment. However, my mother in law can show evidence of enough funds on her behalf.

We are confused by all of this and would appreciate some guidance!

If you state the reason you have given above, in your application then its unlikely you will get any visa at all, as your mother in law may be deemed to be seeking employment as a nanny. I know you will not believe that will be the case, but I dont think the ECO will see it that way.

My advise would be to apply for a 6 months visitor visa and hope it is granted as trying to get another visa for the reasons and length of time you have stated would be impossible. Even for visitor visa I would not state above and maybe give some other good reasons to bring your mother in law here.

She will be allowed to stay for 6 months and could help your wife with new baby.

The chances of geting above are a slim chance, but its the only option left as getting a dependant visa will be inpossible.
