tier 1- Point based calculator(TAX)

Hi,
im entering my earnings from self employment in calculator please tell me should i enter:

earnings - (minus) Expenditure

or earnings - (minus) Expenditure - TAX

when they ask for amount in tier 1 self employment do they need before of after tax?
