Obtaining a license to be a sponsor - is it difficult?

Post by cremegg » Wed Nov 17, 2010 11:01 am

Hi

Is it easy to obtain a license for the CoS for Tier 2? I know what you have to do to obtain the license, but is that a formality and you can assume you will get it if all paperwork is ok or do they have low numbers that they actually award and make it hard to get?

Also, I can't find any information about qualifications for jobs - does the sponsored worker have to give them to the employee to pass on to the UKBA or is the UKBA not interested in seeing them?
Thanks

As long as the sponsor is a legitimate company with a need for a sponsor licence then they should get it. They usually have to provide 5 or 6 documents to prove their bona fide status, and the UKBA will visit them either before or after they grant the licence.

With regard to qualifications, I assume you mean proof of these? The sponsored worker has to prove these by showing certificates when they apply for an entry visa. If the documents are not in the format the UKBA want they will refuse the visa and cancel the certificate issued by the sponsor.

In theory the sponsor should see the certificates to make sure they are genuine before offering the person the job.

The employer I am hoping to be back working for recently obtained a sponsors licence. If everything is legit and you supply the documentaion as requested there should be no problem.
Are you aware though that new sponsors are allocated 0 COS and have to apply separately for these and they are proving very difficult to get?
What salary band will you job be in?
