naturalisation for ILR holder dependent spouse

Post by Midlands2010 » Fri Nov 19, 2010 8:38 pm

I have (March 2010) successfully acquired ILR myself, for wife and kid on WP 5 years basis.

I also got my son's naturalisation as he was born here.
The question now is regarding my wife,
We've been married since Feb 08, wife joined me in UK in March 08 and has been here since.
For naturalisation, can i apply for her as my dependant on the same AN1 application in March 2011? or would she have to stay in the country for 5 years since her arriaval ? ( i.e. till feb 2013?)

I am aware of someone whos wife had been in uk for less than 5 years ( 4 and two monthsyears to be precise )at the time of naturalisation application and was granted british citizenship !

Please advise when is the earliest i can apply for my dependant ILR holder wife for naturalisation as british citize?
Many thanks in advance.

Your spouse may apply for naturalisation through either of the following routes:
Route 1 - Complete 5 years in the UK and upon fulfilling standard requirements apply for naturalisation.
Route 2 - After you are granted British citizenship (naturalisation certificate), your spouse may then apply for naturalisation as spouse of British citizen as and when requirements for spouse /civil partners are met.

Dear Sush,

Many thanks for your prompt response.

Therefore i understand in either case, she has to apply separately and hence another set of Fees. correct?

Is there anyway i can include her in my application, so that we might be able to save a set of fees?

Kind Regards,

Wait until your spouse completes 5 years stay in the UK and fulfils the standard requirements (linked above), and then apply for naturalisation together.
