Should a child transfer PIO card everytime he new passport

Post by atanusaha » Tue Nov 16, 2010 5:55 pm

Could you confirm if there is any need to update the PIO Card of a Child following the expiry of the Original British Passport of the Child (as they are valid for 5 years).
Or would it suffice to carry the old expired Passport along with the new One and the PIO Card.

From the HCI Website
Note: 2 while travelling to India, it is important for OCI holders to carry both (a) the passport bearing ‘LIFE LONG’ visa sticker and (b) the OCI booklet. In case this passport has expired, there is no need to transfer ‘LIFE LONG’ visa to their new passports, but can carry the new passport along with items (a) & (b). Applicants are welcome to apply for transfer, but it will take the same 12 weeks as in the case of fresh applications.

But my query was for PIO, not OCI.
Even for OCI, this info is incomplete as it is mandatory to transfer it until they are 20 and once after they are 50.

Apologies for the mistake. I personally do not have any experiences with PIO, however a friend of mine in the US, his kid has an OCI and he told me that every-time his son's passport expires, they need to start the PIO application, which is frustrating. I would suggest you email the HCI and ask for a clarification on this.

Thanks. Have been sending emails to them, but they care-a-lot for us NRIs, so you can guess.
