Extension query- please help

Hi

My Tier1(General) Visa is due to expire on 22-Aug-2011.

It is valid from 22-Aug-2008 but I entered first time in UK on 17 feb 2009 for a job interview, got selected, went back to india on 27-Feb-2009, resigned from my job in india and came to uk on 23-May-2009.

If I take 23-May-2009 as my date of entry in UK then i entered uk 9 months later(from 22-Aug-2009 to 23-May-2009).

My question is

when should I apply for my extension?

If the extension is granted for 2 years(From 22-Aug-2011 to 22-aug-2013) then it will not cover my 5 years of stay in UK(because of 9 months shortfall explained earlier). Will I have to apply for extension again before my visa expiry on 22-Aug-2013?

or

can they issue me the first extension itself to cover my 5 years(covering my 9 months shortfall)?

You have to apply for extension before 22 Aug 2011 otherwise your visa will expire and you will be illegally in the UK.

Extensions are based on date of validity, not date of entry. So yes, you'll have to extend twice before ILR.
