ILR or Nationality Registration for UK born baby?

My kid was born in the UK a couple months ago. I'm about to apply for ILR early next year and wonder if I should apply for the wife and myself only then if successful register the baby for nationality directly to save the extra few hundred pounds?

Has anyone done this before? All people I know of had their kids as dependents while filing ILR application then applied for Nationality together a year later.
