Hi, please help me

Post by lukepingitore » Fri May 05, 2006 11:47 am

Hi everyone.

I am currently living in Australia, I have my whole life. I am 21 years old and I need a change. I want to move to England and make it my new home, but I'm not sure of the best way to do this.

I tried to get an Italian dual citizenship because my dad was born there but found out I am ineliagble. I also tried for Lithuanian citizenship through my mums side but I am also ineliagble for that.

I'm not sure what the best thing to do is. I believe I can go to the UK on a working holiday and work for a year and then hope to get a work permit. Are work permits very hard to get?

I have completed full schooling here and I have completed a Human Resources TAFE course here (not a uni degree). I have worked for 2 years at a Tile shop in Melbourne. I am open to any work what so ever though.

What are my chances of finding a job that will succesfully get me a work permit and hopefully keep me in the country for 5 years so I can become a resident.

I really want to live and work in England and become a permenant resident but am unsure of my chances of this happening. Are there any other ways to do this?

Would it be a mistake to move there on a working holiday in hopes of staying forever (legally)?

Thanks for taking the time out to read.

The working holiday route is a good start, mainly because it will give you a good idea if you really want to make the UK your home........From personal experience the WP route is not always the greatest as it ties you down to one employer, the HSMP route is probably better but you probably have to have a degree course to get enough points. Getting a degree in England would probably be more preferable, but be warned the fees are quite high for foreign students.

Get your holiday visa sorted, take your time when you do it make sure you have all the docs they require, and try find out from other people's experience who have gone down that route

Good luck

Thanks for the reply.

I guess I dont have any other choice than to go over on a working holiday, is there any other easier way to stay there?

I dont think i can go the HSMP route as I dont have a degree so I dont think I could get many points.

So does that only leave me having to get a work permit if I want to stay longer. If so, would it be really hard for me to get one?

What job should I be looking to get that would be the easiest for me to obtain a work permit?

I want to get a "shortage job" but I dont think I'm qualified to get one. Are there any shortage jobs that I would be able to get?
