Is Nikah Nama under Muslim Marriage Law Acceptable Evidence for a couple to prove their marriage while applying for a dependent Visa Under Tier 2 ICT?

hi

if the nikahnama is in english thats fine else get it attested or get a marriage certificate in english given by the waqf society. enclose marriage pics as well that will make the case strong.

Have done so. My Nikahnama was in both languages (Urdu followed by english on the next line).

Visa application is under process. Waiting in anticipation.

indiansemail, for the record, in which country did the marriage take place?

Also, under the laws of that country, is it recognised as a legal marriage by that country?

It was in India. In India Muslim Law is also recognised. I am not sure if things have changed in the near past.

Does anyone in the forum know?

indiansemail, it is important that you get a definite answer to that question. This is because under the terms of the UK's Foreign Marriages Act 1892 the UK recognises as a legal marriage, a marriage that happened outside the UK but which is recognised as a legal marriage in the country where it took place.

So if India recognises it as a legal marriage, then so does the UK. Conversely if India does not recognise it as a legal marriage, neither does the UK.

  • NikahNama from Wakf Board
    Copy of all 36 pages of my passport
    Copy of COS
    Maintenance Funds Letter (from A Rated Sponsor)
    13 Marriage Photos
    Wedding Invitation Card
    Translation of Ration Card for Wifes Address Proof
    Affidavit signed by notary confirming marriage and address of residence
  • Date Submitted 29.11.2010
    Passport Sent to Bluedart: 8.12.2010
    Passport Received: 9.12.2010
