Current Holders *if* Ancestry Visa is abolished

Post by Glasswing » Thu Dec 16, 2010 12:23 am

I plan to get an ancestry visa in late 2011 (a few months after the change in July to waiting eight years, so it should still be around at that stage), but the frequent increases in the time you have to wait until you can apply for citizenship has made me a little concerned about what would happen to current holders of the ancestry visa if they then decided to abolish it.

Would we be able to keep it, and no new people would be able to apply for it? Or would they take it away from us retroactively and kick us out?

If that happens, then I think that the people affected may appeal on legitimate expectation grounds.

Good point, thanks. Hopefully the government is busy enough with all the other things going on at the moment that they don't decide to get rid of it between now and the end of 2011.
