Without going into too much detail here - there are apps out there that allow a user to browse forums (phpBB) using idiot-phone applications. The only requirement is that a small script has to be installed on the server (there are a few different ones out there, so I'm not going to favour any specific one).

Have the board moderators considered this? Is there something like this already - haven't seen it. It would be great to have as I will then keep in touch on the forum even after I get my visa...

Well, there's definitely a script to change "i.phone" to idiot-phone. I would never call my phone that!!!
