Extension when over 28 for HSMP

Hi All,

I am in the UK on my HSMP and I am 27yrs old. I turn 28 next year on the 4 January.

My questions is, will it be a problem that I am applying for an extention to my HSMP visa (FLR) when I am 28yrs old? I will want to apply for the extension after my next birthday (February or March next year).

Is this an issue?

No, this isn't an issue. Extensions are not based on age.

In the extension case your age alraedy become irrelevant. What is relevent now is your economics activities, and whether you are working in your HSMP Level.

Thanks for the replies.

I may be starting a job next week which is full time and the cash salary is 32000 and the benefits are about 3000. It will be in an IT position thats relevant to my skills.

Will the extension be ok for me then?

No, you are economically active and working. Your extension will not be an issue.

Besides submitting my payslips to the Home Office to extend my visa, do I need to have a certain amount of money saved up in my bank account?

Or can I go out on a spending spree once I start earning....

There is not any guidelines how much money you need to have in your bank account. What is important is that you need to convince the caseworker that you could maintain yourself without recourse of public fund. So, int his case better to have some money in your account besides your salary. This is especially true if your job is contract base (not permanent). They might think you might loose your job in thefuture during your extension period and become dependent.

OK, so I am about to start a permanent position next week. I intend on staying at this job until I need to renew my visa.

How much cash do you recommend I should have in my bank account when applying for the visa extension?

The cash salary is 35k pa with about 3k worth of benefits.
