100 DAYS TO SORT HOME OFFICE

Post by neilroy » Wed May 24, 2006 12:21 pm

Home Secretary John Reid has vowed to do "whatever it takes" to make the public feel safe.

In an interview with a national newspaper, he set a deadline of 100 days to sort out the system that failed to deport 1,019 foreign prisoners.

YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHH RIGHT!!!! AND WHEN DO WE STRAT COUNTING FOR 100 DAYS????

I bet there will be again more harsh measures directed against hardworking tax-paying legal migrants.

I would be happy if they just sorted their website out.

Hmm - its not only the Immigration aspects of the HO that is in shambles. Please read through my thread here http://www.immigrationboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=8113 and you will know that they have not even thought about simple scenarios directly affecting British passport applications outside the UK - i.e. a crucial service for British citizens. This is causing severe distress.

No dis-respect meant to HO here, but i am just frsutrated about the quality of their services and also their processes, paper work, etc.

Pathetic, all-in-all!

Home Secretary John Reid has vowed to do "whatever it takes" to make the public feel safe.
Of course in reality there has never been any threat to public safety, just mass hysteria directed by tabloid newspapers.

I agree with tvt that the likely outcome out of all of this hysteria is that legal immigrants in the UK will again be subjected to more restrictions on their status in the UK. The first victims were those who were about to qualify for ILR. It wouldn't surprise me if the next victims will be those who already have ILR and are about to qualify for naturalisation.
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

The reality is that the Home Office, despite its various faults, is still a hell of a lot more effecient than its equivalent in many other countries, including the notorious INS in the USA, the back-breakingly buearocratic Indian civil service and the shear incompetence of the Home Affairs department in South Africa (my home country).

For example, the Passport Agency can issue a UK passport in a few days using their premium service. In South Africa it takes 4 - 5 months to issue a passport! And there is only one level of service - super slow.

I can only imagine that any more interferance in the Home Office will just make things worse. If it aint broke, don't fix it!

Unfortunately, i think it is broke, at least the overseas UK passport application process/procedures. You must read my thread!

Because the process and hte paper work is a nightmare, we are now getting Indian passport for my new born daughter even though she is already British.

But, yes the good point is that in the UK, the passport application process is a breeze, becuase it is not dealt with by the HO, but the UKPA.

That is why i am planning to bring my daugther into the UK by getting a ROA and then applying for a British passport here in the UK after registering her as a British citizen in the UK.
