Hi, I have a question about the maintenance funds

Post by jlewisunh » Sat Jan 15, 2011 11:40 pm

Simple question that I cannot find the answer to on the website:

Do the statements have to show transaction history for every single day for the 3 month period? My bank statements list daily balances but if there was no transaction on that day, ie - if I didn't use the cash point or there were no debit or credits to the account, then the day is omitted on the statement. Likewise, weekends are omitted as well. So my statements look like they're full of holes because of all the missing days. I am worried the immigration officials will be confused by this even with a cover letter explaining. Anyone have advice or gone through a similar situation? If I just have the bank write a letter saying that the statements only reflect days when there was a transaction, is that sufficient? Or will immigration think something is fishy if there a big gaps in the transaction history?

Thanks.

no you don't need to have every day documented. do you have any recent transactions or does your statement have a recent 'closing balance'?

Sometimes there are problems if you have not used the account for a while so there are no recent transactions and if there is no closing balance for the period of the statement.

I had the same problem. So I arranged a meeting with the branch manager and asked if he would write the following letter for my visa application.

Letter on Bank's official letterhead which includes their logo and full address.

Addressee: My Full Name and Address
Date: [date of letter]

To whom it may concern

Account Balance Enquiry - Account Number XXXXX Account Name: Mr xxxx

Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding the current balance on the above account.

I can confirm that the balance of this account has been at least £[amount must be over £800] from the [full date] through to [my date was 3 days before application date]. [The two dates must cover a period of over 90 days.]

If you need any further assistance please contact me using the details at the top of this letter 0900-1700 where I will be pleased to help.
Yours sincerely

Branch Manager

He actually wrote and signed the letter in the meeting.

I sent this letter only with my visa application which was successful.

I hope this helps you.

Good luck.
