Passport to expire while in Home Office possession

Hello, hope you can help us in our concern regarding this query. We have applied for ILR April 2006 and never heard from the Home Office since, aside from the letter of acknowledgement that they have received our passport and the documents needed to support the application. At that time our non EEA passport was just renewed and it has a validity of 5 years which will expire on March 2011. Do we have to inform them that the passport will expire soon, our sincere thanks for any suggestions.
