Ok here it goes...
I got F1 visa from Pakistan in 1996. I moved to states and graduated in 1999. I got married to my b/f and filed 1 485. Marriage did not work out and he withdrew petition in April 2003. A company offered to spnsor for my H1 and filed for it in June of 2003. I got a decision in Jan 2004 that they would approve my H1 but denied AOS due to my being out of status since March 2003 (dunno how they got that date...) I stayed in the states till I was able to enter Canada as a PR in Oct 2005. NOW! I finally went yesterday to the American Embassy in Toronoto to apply for Visit Visa. Everyone told me NOT to go but I did....I came clean about everything.....My dad just had a 5 bypass opertion in the states during his visit there so I have to go see him. The visa officer saw that i was sincere and said he will issue me the visa despite "me telling him - yes i overstayed with no legal status". I guess I got lucky...
Anyway, my I 94 card was taken from me when i filed for the marriage petition in 2000. All I have is a copy of it which i gave to the Visa officer yesterday as they had no record of departing for me ( I assume this)...So now my question is this:
"At the time I enter the US by road or car - I may drive to Detroit as its not far and thats where my family is....will i encounter problem with the Immigration officers?" despite me getting a visit visa?? What can i expect? What should i bring with me? Do you think they will have record of my departure or not?....
I am a bit concerned.... So i would appreciate any advice. This 1 lawyer said she has some contacts with a border patrol off who can look my info up on the system to see what it shows...should i go for it? She is charging me $300 for it.
THanks,
Aly
