Sorry for the confusion. Just wanted to say that kind of situation is accepted for Irish citizen ship. i.e., if a person is resident in the state for a total of 5 years in the last 8 years.sisi84 wrote:are you sure,as im paying tax to england not ireland and im in belfast?everybody says diferent things im confused....but i can try any way for the irish citizenship then is that corect?Aceform wrote:Not sure about British citizenship. thank you,i was thinking the same but wasnt sure.im going to try for the british citizenshipwalrusgumble wrote:In order to naturalise as an Irish Citizen, you must be living in this State (ie 26 counties) for 5 years, including 1 year continous. This is the only way to obtain citizenship of Ireland, in your situation, unless, of course you married an Irish person, though you would still need to live in the 26 counties.
The provision regarding obtaining Irish Citizenship, even though you are in the North and under British jurisidiction does not apply to you. The original purpose (and without taking into account non irish / non british residents) was to recognise the political situation between both communitites in the north. You were born in neither jurisidictions
Now of course, if you had a child born in Northern Ireland, and you were legal under British Immgiration Law, then the child might be entitled to Irish Citizenship
With regard to British Citizenship, that will be something you will have to check up on , but there is not much difference in the requirements. I would imagine you should have little difficulty meeting the British requirements
