citizinship- character reference required

Post by sara01 » Tue Feb 01, 2011 2:08 pm

Helloooo everyone,

after reading some of the topics here, im hoping someone would be able to help me with a few qureries regarding citizenship for my husband. we are hoping to apply for citizenship based on marriage using form AN. My Husband will be completing 3 years within the UK on the 1st march.

1) Form AN requests that a good character reference is required from work, my husband has not worked, will this be an issue? what can we use to show his good character?

2) My husband is not paying council tax and is not registered with the council....will this affect his application?

3) can we use any NCS office if he is not registered within a specific borough?

Thank you for any help and this website is a great help ....

To answer your question, it would be useful to know your nationality

It looks like you husband will not be able to provide any of the usual evidence of good character such as P60s, etc....

That does not mean that his is not of good character but since the burden of proof is on the applicant, it could be a problem.

However, there may be other issues here. You sau you husband will have completed 3 years in the UK on March 1st. What is his immigration status at the moment ? What type of visa is he on ?

I am asking because if you want your husband to apply for citizenship based on his marriage to you, he will have to be free from immigration controls on the day he makes the application.

Your husband doesn't have to be employed or submit P60's etc. This won't affect his application.
The personal referees will vouch for his good character. Don't worry, this is all he needs.
