Unemployed Visitor

Post by Missrenee » Tue Feb 01, 2011 6:02 am

I have visited london twice before last year as I met a man and we hit it off online. I was detained the first time due to the fact that we had met online, and that I was unemployed. I was allowed entrance, but felt very shaken up about the whole thing. Again, went back a second time and same thing, meeting boyfriend, unemployed, but this time not detained. I am still currently unemployed, and I am nervous about being turned away since this next trip will be longer. I always have a return ticket and proof of travel insurance. Why is it that since I have proven myself to not have overstayed my visits, the fact that I am unemployed presents a red flag? Really nervous, really need advice.

Due to the fact that you have a boyfriend in the UK and no strong reason (employment etc) to return to your home country.

Thanks Casa for replying. Now with all said and done, with the fact that I have always returned to the US, is that enough to prove that I am a low risk? I know they have to ask me about it, but I just worry that on this specific trip being a month long visit, that they may deny me.

How will you support yourself?
Similar to visitors to the USA, can you provide evidence of strong ties to your home country?

I'd say you were in serious risk of being denied entry if you get an officer who wants to look at your case closely. You don't seem to have very strong reasons to leave and you are not here on holiday. If you can't prove you have money for your stay then you may well have a problem. The fact you left in the past just means you haven't yet broken the law. It's not like you're racking up clubcard points. Be very careful.

Well I am currently looking for work, and I am just visiting my boyfriend when I am there. I am not trying to live or work in the country, and do have funds that I will bring with me, as I have before. The only reason why I am concerned is that, with the trip being a bit longer than the other 2, if that would make them feel I was doing something wrong. We have visited other european countries together when I was on visit to london and re-entered the country with no problem.

For peace of mind, why not apply for a visitor visa before you travel?
