Some insight into the difficulties in obtaining a COS

Someone on whatdotheyknow.com requested information from UKBA on number of COS request/grants:

Points of interest:

- in september and october they didn't grant any COS for any initial applications, only extensions.
- it appears they have granted at most 461 COS for new non shortage applications since October. It is very likely some of these were for shortage occupations, but that cannot be determined from the way they have presented the data.
- only 135(shortage and non shortage) granted out of 1192 for january - maybe they are running out?
